Challah Recipe

Want to smell and celebrate Shabbat like at the ELC?
Here is our challah recipe (followed by baking instructions):

Water - 1 cup
Yeast - 3 tsp
Sugar - 1/2 tbsp

Flour - 2.5 cups
Sugar - 1/4 cup
Salt - 1.25 tsp
Oil - 3/4 cup
Eggs - 2.5 eggs

Baking Instructions:
-Put first 3 ingredients--water, sugar and yeast-- in one bowl. Leave it for 10 minutes.
-In a separate bowl mix the eggs and oil.
-In another bowl mix flour, sugar and salt. Add the eggs and oil and the yeast bowl. Knead until the dough is smooth and doesn’t stick to your hands. You might need extra flour.
-Wrap the bowl with saran wrap and let it rise for an hour or until the dough has doubled it size.
-Braid the challah and let it rise for 30 min.
-Brush the Challah with egg and add your favorite topping: cinnamon sugar, sesame, poppy seed or just plain!
-Warm up the oven on 350F and bake for 30 minutes. Challah should be brownish on the bottom and top.
ENJOY!!!
